The scale

At this scale, a few seconds saved on a process stop being a detail.

Inditex distributes to so many countries that a few seconds saved on one process, in a warehouse or in distribution, can add up to hundreds of millions of euros a year. Since July 2025 I’ve been part of its product design team, embedded remotely through Redbility: first in Logistics, now in Distribution, designing the internal tools the operation runs on. Those tools are under NDA, so there are no screens of them here. I’m happy to walk through them in conversation.

The work

The brief

Build it, don’t buy it

The rule

Inditex runs its own software, and only brings in an outside tool when there’s truly no other way.

The brief

Replace the third-party audit platform in its warehouses with a tool of its own, in every warehouse that used it.

What came of it

Something good: all of the warehouse maintenance moved into the same tool.

Research

Start in the warehouse

Where

In the warehouses themselves, on site visits.

Who

The operators and team leads who use the tools, in interviews.

And

The product owners and managers who had run the previous products.

The tool

Planned ahead, done on the floor

Warehouse team leads

Plan the work in the warehouse: one-off tasks and recurring ones.

Operators

Carry out the audits on mobile terminals.

In sync

The plan and the work stay fully synchronised between the two.

The method

The workflows follow 5S, a method for safety, order and cleanliness at work.

How I work

Remote, never alone

Every day

Dailies, weekly presentations, and the famous biweeklies, where every vertical presents its best projects. And calls with my colleagues, all the time.

Why

Without that constant contact, working remotely turns into just working, and nothing more.

So far

  2. The briefAn in-house audit tool
  3. Along the wayMaintenance moves into it
  4. NowDistribution

Moving to Distribution changed the kind of problem. Running a warehouse is one thing; getting the merchandise out to the whole world is another: the cycles and the timing, how the volume is handled, what’s left over, the sales, what’s new, the replenishment. Complex cycles, refined over decades.

What I didn’t expect

In a company this mature, the screen is rarely the hard part.

The rules are very clear and the design system is fairly closed, so there’s little to invent in the interface. The challenge is understanding an operation that has been refined over decades.

What I’m taking with me

Design at scale

Working inside a design team this large, with its rules and its rituals.

A critical vertical

Being part of a vertical the business can’t run without.

Decisions with weight

Making decisions that have a real impact on one of Spain’s largest companies.

At any scale, it’s always the people.

Curious?

The good stuff never fits in a portfolio. Ask me about it.
